Robert Fath

Residency: 1974

Bob is the owner/operator of Fath's Big Woods Resort on the west shore of Big St. Germain Lake. He also worked at Trig's grocery store in Eagle River for many years.

Henry Fruend

Residency: 1906

Henry was born in Samond, MO in 1884 and came to Vilas County, WI in 1906 with his brother, Joseph. The two men purchased 80 acres of wild land in Farmington (St Germain) which they owned in partnership until 1910 when he sold his interest to Joseph. He lived in Sayner, WI for a year and in 1911 received a commission as a forest ranger in the Boulder Junction District. Henry married Mary Cook on May 29, 1907 in a ceremony performed at Lost Lake Resort.

Howard Fruend

Residency: Born here

Howard was born on April 10, 1925 in St. Germain. He was a son of Joseph and Augusta Fruend and a nephew of Henry Fruend. He is also a brother of Viola Dean. He served in the Navy during WWII, then worked on the AlCan Highway in 1943-1944. He returned to St. Germain and in 1947 was one of the founders of our Community United Church of Christ. He was appointed St. Germain postmaster in 1966 and retired in 1984.

Frances Froelich

Residency: 1900

Frances was married to Michael Froehlich and helped with the operations of Lost Lake Resort.

Michael Froelich

Residency: 1900

Michael purchased 95 acres on Lost Lake where he built and operated Lost Lake Resort until 1913. He then sold the resort to his son-in-law, Clarence Shannon (Shannon Lake is named after Clarence). Michael then built a hotel in Sayner, WI which he operated during summers (this building still exists directly across the street from the Sayner Pub). He spent his winters in Alabama where he owned and operated Perdido Beach Resort which still operates today.
