Olof Valley
Residency: Early 1900's
Little is known about Olof Valley, except he built and operated
the fourth resort on Big St. Germain Lake in the early 1900's.
This was Normandy Court, a large resort on the south shore of
the lake. He was born in Sweden and came to the U.S. as a young
child with his parents.

Bernard Van Aker
Residency: Unknown
Bernie operated a very
successful lawn maintenance service in our area. He enjoyed
fishing, was an avid golfer, and played for Sisters Saloon (Peacock)
softball team. He suffered a fatal heart attack in 2000
shortly after arriving home from playing a softball game

John Vandervort
Residency: Unknown
John taught in the
Juve School
for many years. He also owned two resorts on Lost Lake. One
was Forest Primeval where the "Stone House" is located and he
owned most of that shoreline. He was an energetic visualizer
and enthusiastic promoter of our area. Here are only two of his
many projects for the community. What is now Holiday Estates
and Timbergate was a planned airport for St. Germain to be named
Weber's Field in honor of William
Weber. It did not materialize and
Paul Keene
and Marlene Bartelt's
husband purchased the land to make the two subdivisions. John
was also the creator of "Colorama" and St. Germain held the
first one in 1960. It is now one our biggest fall festivals and
has spread to other communities.

Charles Vogel
Residency: Early 1970's
He purchased Rustic Manor Motel when he first came to St.
Germain and operated it for several years. During this time he
started Charles Vogel Enterprises and operated this construction
company for 30 years. He is now semi-retired. At one time he
purchased the Twilight Tavern,
remodeled it, added the basement, and leased it until he sold
it.

James Vogel
Residency: Early-1970's
Jim is a son of
Charles Vogel.
He operated Jimbo's Trucking for several years and his blue and
pink-flamed "Quadzilla" truck was easily recognized. He then
worked for Vogel Enterprises until it closed.
he currently works in Minoqua, WI.

Steven Vogel
Residency: Early-1970's
Steve is a son of
Charles Vogel.
He purchased and operated the
Muskie Queen
for several years. He was employed with Vogel Construction for
many years and now has his own excavating business.

Terri Vogel
Residency: Mid-1970's
Terri is a daughter
of Jim Benson
and married to
Steve Vogel.
She was employed with Vogel Construction until it was closed.
